Work Weekend...and some fun.

So this weekend included getting trees for my house and mom and dad's house.  Then hung out over there with Sue and her little girl Brooke, while Des, Dad and Scott put together a grill - timing is everything. Saturday I woke up feeling kind of crappy and couldn't really motivate, I ended up getting all the crown molding sanded, got to hang out and visit with some great friends and volunteered at Ronald McDonald House - not a bad day. Today however, I did touch up on the ceiling and walls while listening to love actually, went to see New Moon, had a guiness while watching football, went to the hardware store to buy a tree stand, went to the auto parts store to get lights I'm missing, came home and finished touching up, painted the crown, set the nails on the base and spackled them while listening to Santa Baby 2 and White Christmas. What I know now is that is too much to do in one day, according to my feet mostly - though my back is loudly seconding the motion. The other thing I know is that now the crown (which I rethought about 100 times today) freaking looks awesome! I accidentally used the enamel for the doors instead of the plain latex paint - which Dad was concerned would make the seams to noticeable, but since I'd already done half we both decided it would be fine. :) Still have a redonk list of todos - including 3 large pieces of furniture that would like to be put together...but we're moving right along here. :)  sleepy time now.

We have progress...and baseboards and crown molding

So no time to really post, but Dad has been working like a trojan, and has finished putting up all but 15 inches of crown and all the baseboards. Today Dad caulked around the majority of the space and I spackled the cracks and nail holes...but the painting will have to wait till next week as I'm out to St. Louis for work. Here are some photos - enjoy. :)

So I'm going to build 2 of these shelves to go against the bali turquiose wall and still need to figure out what to put the TV on -
I'm thinking of this one - any thoughts?

Thanks!

Good news!

Dad is home and out of the hospital doing well, he said he feels fine, so hopefully that is true. Thank You

Thank God for my Dad

So my Dad is kind of my hero, he can do anything. This past week he has been working on the baseboards and crown molding in my new place. We thought the guys hired to sand the floors were going to come and help put everything done, unfortunately only one showed up on day one and didn't show up again after that. So Dad has been working overtime to get this done. Thankfully my mom and one of his best friends have stepped in, I feel terribly guilty sitting at my computer all day, while they all toil away at my house, but that's the way it goes.

Until Monday/Tuesday when dad woke up at 3 am and realized his heart was out of rhythm, a problem that has happened repeatedly, so now he is in the hospital and the doctors are messing with his drugs. Hopefully he can come home today, he has suggested that he'll be back to work tomorrow. One the one hand I do not want him to overdo it, but on the other hand I think he secretly loves having a project that he can finish. So prayers from the universe would be great.

Over and out.

Projects are like pringles...you can never have just one

So I started the major process of ripping out dusty rose carpet from my condo to have the parquet floors refinished. Note to self: Always expect the unexpected when starting a renovation project. Today my mom, dad and friend KJ came over to help me pull up the carpet, a million staples, 70 feet of tack strips and baseboards. We did approximately 500 square feet in 6 hours - found approximately 20 damaged parquet tiles and a lot of white paint (apparently when they changed the building from apartments to condos in the 70s, they spray painted everything white including a good portion of the floor. So Dad is calling he sander-guy to reschedule and looking for the replacement tiles. Then after the carpet was out, we pulled out a ridiculous number of staples. So off to the Home Depot down the street to pick out paint colors, since the floors will get sanded, I will not have to worry too much about the paint getting on the floors. Since I couldn't make a snap decision on the paint, I got samples and painted posterboards to look at in the morning, but I'm pretty much in love with Ralph Lauren Bali Turquoise - its going to look awesome :)  Other colors that I'm digging - fresh pineapple and granny apple by glidden. So what will I get done tomorrow? It will start with buying some tinted primer for the bali turquoise wall. Off to bed now.
